Overview
A revision can be unsubmitted for a variety of reasons. For detailed and specific information about why a manuscript has been unsubmitted, please review the email you will have received from the Peer Review team. The email subject line contains the journal name and your manuscript ID.
Why has my revision been unsubmitted?
For general information on reasons why a revision might be unsubmitted and how to address this matter before resubmitting, please see below.
Please note, not all reasons listed below apply to all journals. When editing your revision ready for resubmission, we strongly recommend that you follow the detailed instructions provided to you by the Journal’s editorial office via email.
Reasons why a revision might be unsubmitted:
Missing response to reviewers’ comments
When submitting your revision, please upload a separate point-by-point response to the reviewers’ comments alongside your revised manuscript.
Changes not highlighted
The changes made to the manuscript during revision must be highlighted/tracked for the benefit of the editors and reviewers who may then clearly note the updates in the manuscript.
Double Anonymization
The journal you have submitted to may practice double anonymized peer review. This means that the author’s identity remains unknown to the reviewers and vice versa. Please remove any author identifying information such as authors' names or initials, email addresses, affiliations, ORCID information from the main manuscript, as well as the author response letter.
Author affiliations
The full author affiliations included on the uploaded paper do not match the information listed on the submission system. Please add all affiliations, ensuring they match exactly. Please also ensure that the corresponding author's email address matches with the information entered on the submission system.
Author e-mail address mismatch
The corresponding author e-mail address included on the uploaded paper does not match the corresponding author email address entered on the submission system.
Keywords and abstract
The keywords and abstract are not included on the first page of the article.
Reference style
You are not currently using the correct reference style required by the journal. Please see the manuscript submission guidelines for more information on the journal’s referencing style. Please update the referencing style before resubmitting the manuscript.
Abstract structure
Abstract structure to be corrected. We require the abstract to be structured according to the manuscript submission guidelines, as applicable for your manuscript type. Please revise the abstract for the manuscript and resubmit.
Authorship change
You have added and/or removed names to/from the authorship of this paper. It is against Sage policy, in line with best practice guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), to make any change to the authorship of a paper after submission without the consent of all parties concerned. The new author list should contain only those who meet the journal’s authorship criteria, as detailed on the journal’s submission guidelines. NB: All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should instead be listed in an `Acknowledgements’ section.
If your authorship list has changed, in order to proceed with your submission, we require completion of the Sage Authorship Change form. This should include the following: (a) A detailed explanation for the change in authors, including why the individual was/was not listed as an author in previous versions of the manuscript; AND (b) A statement confirming any added author’s exact contributions; these must meet the journal’s authorship criteria; AND (c) Signature of all co-authors, including those that you wish to add and/or remove from the author list; signatures on behalf of other author(s) are not accepted.
Authorship change requests with unsatisfactory or incomplete explanations will result in your request being declined. Upload the completed form when resubmitting your paper.
