Which IP formats are supported?

Modified on Tue, 23 Apr 2024 at 04:58 PM

Sage Journals currently supports IP version 4 (IPv4)IP version 6 (IPv6) addresses are not currently supported, although Sage is exploring offering IPv6 support in the future.

Only public IP addresses can be registered for authentication. The following private IP addresses are not supported:

  • 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
  • 169.254.0.0 - 169.254.255.255
  • 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
  • 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

Please note that the IPs registered for your institution's authentication method must be unique to your institution, and cannot be shared with any other institutions.

If you are using a cloud-based proxy provider, or VPN alternative, where your public (or outgoing) IPs may be randomly assigned from a pool of IPs, and where IP addresses from that pool may possibly be used by multiple different organizations who also subscribe to that service, please note that these types of IPs also may not be used for authentication, if they are not unique to your institution. If you do use this type of service, but your IP addresses are confirmed to be used by your institution only, then those may be used.
