What is an article processing charge (APC)?

Modified on Fri, 23 Jun 2023 at 11:36 PM

An article processing charge (APC) is a fee charged to enable an article to be made open access on publication. APCs can vary from journal to journal, so check the journal’s website to find out the current APC.

For gold open access journals, the APC is payable after the article's acceptance and publication.

For hybrid open access (Sage Choice), the article can be made open on publication or requested to be made open after publication. Find out more in the Sage Choice FAQs.
