How much does it cost to publish my article open access?

Modified on Fri, 27 Oct 2023 at 08:10 PM

There are several ways to find the Article Processing Charge (APC) or publication fee (if any) to publish open access. Please note that pricing may vary, so please visit the journal's submission guidelines.

The quickest way to find submission guidelines is to click Submit Paper on the journal's homepage.

  1. Check the submission guidelines. Most Sage journal submission guidelines state publication fees and/or participation in Sage Choice, with most of our subscription-based journals free to publish.
  2. Check to see if the journal is subscription-based. Every Sage journal has a designated homepage. Under the journal title, there are drop-down menu items. If you see "Subscribe" in the Journal Info drop-down menu, this is a subscription-based journal and may participate in Sage Choice.
  3. Check to see if the journal participates in Sage ChoiceOur Sage Choice program enables authors to comply with funding body requirements while still publishing their article in a subscription journal. Sage Choice ranges from $3000 to $4000 USD; some non-standard fees are lower or higher. Please check APC rates by title. However, there are titles not included and those with discounts; please see here.
  4. Check to see if the journal is Pure Gold OA. Most Sage pure gold open access journals are supported by the payment of an article processing charge (APC). For the APC price, please visit the specific journal's submission guidelines.
